Important win for Nitra
Important game to mention about took place in Komarno. First ranked Nitra saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 3rd placed Komarno 88-86 on Saturday evening. The guests were already 11 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 26-17 Komarno's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 88-86 at the end of the game. Nitra dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Komarno's 48. They outrebounded Komarno 38-22 including a 24-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Branislav Tomek who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international guard Robert Nuber accounted for 14 points (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winning side. Nitra's coach Lubomir Urban allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Johnathon Jones came up with 18 points and 9 assists and Slovenian forward Sinisa Bilic added 22 points respectively for Komarno in the defeat. Five Nitra and four Komarno players scored in double figures. Nitra maintains first place with 15-5 record. Komarno at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. Nitra will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Komarno will play on the road against Handlova and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
